SACRED PAUSE

SACRED PAUSE
The worship planning team invites you into moments of Sacred Pause throughout your time participating in General Assembly.

There are a lot of things before you and important decisions that you are being called upon to discern as you seek to faithfully serve the Church. So, first of all, thank you for saying yes to this significant role in helping to guide and shape the wider body of the PC(USA). We offer these prayers and reflections as a reminder that the work you are doing is an act of worship. It is our desire to help you feel encouraged, challenged, and held in God’s grace, believing that God inspires, speaks, moves, and sends each and every one of us in a variety of ways. You are beloved, and because we belong to God, we belong to one another.  May we journey together in such a way.

The artwork, “David’s Dance,” is provided by Suyun Son and is a visual depiction of lament and hope. She shares, “David’s Psalms move in lament and hope: not linearly, where hope comes after leaving lament, but like a dance where hope and lament are in an embrace. Lament expresses hope, that brokenness is not how it should be, and hope gives us space to lament. This painting series conveys this dance of lament and hope sung in David’s poems/psalms.”

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Suyun Son believes art is a way to re-perceive the world. We are programmed to construct our world by functionality, its usefulness. This has been the dominating operating system from Enlightenment to our post-modern social media world. We miss what is beautiful in our rush for what is useful for our consumption or production. Suyun breaks down the world to its fundamentals – colors, shapes, textures – to honor the world independent of our needs to justify our existence. Her art seeds doubts of our immediate perception, challenging viewers towards diverse and empathic ways. Interested in the artwork? Contact suyunson@gmail.com | www.suyunson.com.
